Purpose of the Role

To provide high-quality tax advisory and compliance services to clients as part of the Agriculture and Property Team. To contribute to the development of the practice under supervision and develop personal knowledge in relevant Tax areas, maintaining a current knowledge to ensure the best advice is given.

Responsibilities

  • Tax compliance for a mixed portfolio of clients, including business owners, sole traders, partnerships, high net worth individuals, and their related companies or trusts.
  • Work with managers, directors and partners to deliver complex tax projects to clients, ensuring technical accuracy and a commercial approach. Tax projects will include (but not be limited to):
    • Inheritance Tax appraisals and the associated implementation of planning opportunities
    • VAT Advice
    • Stamp Duty Land Tax advice
    • Liaising with HMRC regarding ongoing investigations via telephone or in writing.
    • Capital Gains Tax planning and Capital Gains Tax compliance
  • Review tax returns prepared by junior members of the team.
  • Assist and train junior members of the team with various tax matters.
  • Provide tax assistance to other departments within the Firm when required.
  • Liaise with clients on a regular basis.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and additional services to raise with clients.
  • Attend courses that are appropriate to the job role and to ensure compliance with CPD requirements.
  • Generation and referral of leads to other Ellacotts teams.
  • Support managers, directors and partners in the overall development of the Agriculture and Property team.
  • Complete other broader activities as and when required.

 

Critical Skills Required

  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to work with a commercial and client-focused approach
  • Excellent problem resolution skills and ideas generation ability
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong technical ability and accuracy with advice and recording

Critical Knowledge Required

  • Knowledge of personal and business taxes
  • Knowledge of capital taxes, including Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax
  • Familiarity with taxation software and interaction with HMRC online services.

Qualifications Required

Essential:    ACA/ACCA and/or CTA qualified

Experience Required

Essential:    Minimum of 3 years proven tax experience within a practice environment
